The Art of Curation

As I begin selecting the pieces that will become part of Verani Atelier, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to curate a collection.

There is certainly no shortage of beautiful outdoor furniture and accessories in the world. But I’m learning that finding something beautiful is only the beginning.

The question I keep coming back to is:

Does it feel like Verani?

For me, that means looking beyond trends and thinking about how a piece will actually live in a space.

Will it invite people to sit a little longer?

Will a dining table become the place where dinner stretches well past sunset?

Will a pair of comfortable chairs become someone's favorite spot for morning coffee?

Will an outdoor kitchen become the gathering place where everyone seems to end up while dinner is being prepared?

Those are the things I think about when choosing products for Verani Atelier.

A Point of View Is Beginning to Emerge

As I've spent more time sourcing and studying outdoor spaces, I've noticed myself returning again and again to certain materials and details.

The warmth of natural teak.

Beautiful woven textures.

Rope detailing.

Soft, sophisticated neutrals.

Unexpected silhouettes.

Pieces that feel substantial without feeling heavy.

And increasingly, I'm drawn to outdoor furniture that doesn't necessarily look like traditional outdoor furniture at all.

I love spaces that feel collected over time rather than purchased all at once.

A beautiful table paired with comfortable chairs. A textured rug underfoot. An unexpected side table. Lanterns glowing as the sun goes down. Greenery spilling from oversized planters.

The individual pieces matter, of course.

But it's how they come together—and how the space ultimately feels—that interests me most.

Not Everything Has to Belong

One of the most interesting parts of curating Verani Atelier has been realizing that not every beautiful product belongs here.

And that's okay.

The goal was never to offer everything.

I would rather create a thoughtful collection of pieces that have something special about them—a beautiful material, an interesting silhouette, exceptional functionality, wonderful craftsmanship, or simply that indefinable quality that makes me stop and take another look.

Because when I find one of those pieces, I immediately begin imagining the space around it.

The table set for dinner.

The fire going.

Music playing somewhere in the background.

Someone carrying another bottle of wine outside.

Nobody particularly interested in going back indoors.

That's usually when I know I'm onto something.

More Than an Outdoor Space

I've said from the beginning that Verani Atelier was inspired by a simple belief:

Some of life's best moments happen outdoors.

Around a table. Beside a fire. Under the stars. Surrounded by the people who matter most.

As the Verani collection grows, I want every piece we choose to somehow support that idea.

Because ultimately, I'm not particularly interested in creating a store filled with outdoor things.

I'm interested in helping create outdoor spaces that people can't wait to use.

Spaces that become part of the rhythm of everyday life.

Morning coffee.

Sunday dinners.

Unexpected conversations.

Celebrations.

Quiet evenings.

And, if you're lucky, those nights when everyone loses track of time and nobody wants to leave the table.

Maybe that's what the art of curation really is.

Not simply choosing beautiful things.

It's choosing the things that help make beautiful moments possible.
